History

Introduction

Our toys are the continuation of over 100-year-old tradition of manufacturing woden toys and beads in the middle of Jizerské hory in DETOA Albrechtice s.r.o.

First products were sold to customers already around the year 1895. But the rapid development came after 1.1.1908. It was when the owner Johann Schowanek built a modern factory, which became soon one of the best and first-rate producer of wooden toys and beads in the world. Around 1920 the company was already exporting its goods to many countries all around the world – to Europe, Asia, Australia, America and Africa.

The factory Detoa started its work 1.1.1908. It had been continually extended untill 1935 when it got its present form image.

		Popular board games (1926 – 1970). The products were sold under the name "Schowanek" and later "Tofa".

Very popular toys for kids during 1926 – 1945.		Toy cars from1925 – 1935 made under the brand name "Schowanek".

Since 1945, when the company was renamed to TOFA Albrechtice, the factory has belonged among the most important European producers. Many toys that were made in our factory in the last 100 years have been undoubtably "cult toys", which have been being copied all over the world.


World hit-toy from our factory from the thirties of 20th Century – Jo-jo.		Classic toy invented by our designer – Press Up Figure. Nowadays, it has been being copied all over the world. First products were put on the market around 1930.

Since the thirties 20th Century very popular board game Domino has been being made in our factory.		More than hundred thousands of different kinds of abacuses have been manufactured in our factory since 1926. Many generations learnt on them how to count.

Teaching aid „dog abacus“ that was put on the market around 1965.		Among the classic toys from our factory also belongs a register tool table, that has been a model for many other companies. It has been being made in our factory since 1975.

Another world-famous toy is our assembling tool car. It has been being made in our factory since 1972.		The first time this tool box had been manufactured in 1963.

Magnetic theatres have belonged among classic toys since 1960.

Very popular Czech bedtime-story character - The Little Mole by Zdeněk Miler.		Detoa offers many kinds od this character.

Very popular wooden jewellery for kids has been being made in our factory for almost 100 years. We are one of the the best in this sphere of business.		Classic children jewellery from wooden beads (1918 – 1950).

For more than 100 years we have been making different kinds of wooden beads. They used to be a very important part of accessories for women all over the world. Now they are mainly sold in the „hobby“ area and they can develop the creativity and hand skills of our children.
